Spongebob The Movie: Sponge On the Run

Spongebob The Movie: Sponge On the Run

Spongebob is back but this time in CGI. Typically, a 2D hand drawn cartoon found on Nickelodeon gets the Pixar treatment. The animation is fantastic because it looks more like claymation like the Peanuts movie. This was supposed to be a theatrical release but, well, you know, Covid strikes again. Paramount pictures decided to sell the movie Netflix on the UK on November 5th and CBS All Access at a later date in North America.

The movie has all your favorites, Spongebob (of course), Patrick, Squidward, Sandy, Mr.Krabs, Gary, Plankton, Snoop Dogg and Keanu Reeves. You read that right, Gary the snail. If you’ve seen any Spongebob cartoon you know that Plankton has it out for Mr.Krabs to try and steal the secret formula to the Kraby patty. That’s where we start here. This time Plankton just wants to get rid of ‘Bob. How you ask, easy, through Gary. King Poseidon fears getting old and when he sees a wrinkle, he thinks a snail’s mucus can eliminate wrinkles. A bunch of flyers go up saying that the King wants a snail and Plankton knows exactly what to do.

This is where the movie starts, a buddy road trip. The movie is funny, has dancing pirate Zombies, Snoop Dogg and the guiding light of Keanu Reeves. This movie is just as good as the previous theatrical releases if not the best one based on the animation alone. Fun story unfolds with hijinks and action. If this was to be released in theaters it would’ve made a chum bucket loads of money. Kids will love it and so did I.

Watch this one with the family or alone after ordering a pizza and checking your social media.
